As of today 17th February 2022, customers may no longer add a VAT number at the checkout as "guest".
This change was implemented for a few reasons;
- Improve performance
Even though most customers do not enter a VAT number, we still had to perform checks in case it was. Removing it from guest checkout meant we could improve the checkout performance.
- Reduce Data Entry
Similar to performance, this way the customer has 1 less field to look at during checkout
VAT number can still be supplied by your customers, however, it has to be supplied at an account level.
